10 Movies You Won’t Believe Are In Development

9. Dear David

Over the years, films have been adapted from plays, musicals, books and of course real-life. However, it is perhaps a sign of the times when a film is being developed based on a Twitter thread. A Twitter thread that began, “So, my apartment is currently being haunted by a ghost of a dead child and he’s trying to kill me”. Undoubtedly one of the stranger things to scroll past on a Twitter feed.

When former Buzzfeed writer Adam Ellis first tweeted about his supernatural encounters with a ghostly little boy, he probably didn’t imagine that New Line Cinema would enter a bidding war for the rights to turn his tale into a movie. But that’s exactly what happened and now It producer Dan Lin is behind the big screen adaptation of Ellis’ Dear David story.

Whilst, little else is known about the plot other than the fact it is a “high concept horror-thriller”, Dear David could mark the beginning of social media influenced movies.

Let’s just hope that your Aunt’s mindless Facebook posts don’t get bought by Steven Spielberg and turned into a movie.
