10 Movies You Won't Believe Cost So Much Money
1. Evan Almighty - $175 Million
Remember that crappy Bruce Almighty sequel Evan Almighty? It was a pretty forgettable comedy and just a quick, cheap cash grab on the studio's part right?
Nope. It cost $175 million, making it the most expensive comedy of all time. For comparison, Darren Aronofsky's big budget movie Noah with Russell Crowe only cost $125 million. Some movies that had the same budget as Evan Almighty include Troy, Jupiter Ascending and Edge of Tomorrow.
So where the hell did all the money go? Well, for some reason they decided to construct an actual, massive ark set which was 450 feet long, just about the same size as the one built for Aronofsky's film. It's somewhat admirable that they wanted to use practical effects and make the movie look as good as possible, but would anyone really have minded a little CGI in a dumb Steve Carell comedy? Was that the best use of money?
The film ended up grossing $100 million domestically, so whoever made the decision that they should actually build the ark has definitely been regretting it every second of every day since.
