10 Movies You Won't Believe Cost So Much Money

6. How Do You Know - $120 Million

Evan Almighty Budget
Columbia Pictures

Here's another simple looking comedy that cost an insane amount of money, this time a whopping $120 million for a film that doesn't look even remotely expensive.

The movie is about a woman who's cut from the US softball team and finds herself in the midst of a love triangle. Apparently a little less than half of the budget of How Do You Know was for the cast and director, which explains the crazily high cost. Reese Witherspoon was paid $15 million, Jack Nicholson $12 million, Owen Wilson $10 million, and Paul Rudd $3 million. Adding in the director's salary of $10 million, that's an insane $50 million already, and that alone would be a reasonable budget for one of these movies.

The film was a financial catastrophe of course, grossing $50 million worldwide. That wouldn't have been all that bad, though, if the studio hadn't decided to spend the same amount of money on a throwaway romantic comedy as they'd spend on an action summer blockbuster.
