10 Movies You Won't Believe Were Released 1 Year Apart

1. Jack Frost And Jack Frost

Jack Frost 1997 1998
A-Pix Entertainment Inc. & Warner Bros.

In the history of cinema there exists two movies with the exact same name from two very different genres that follow a suspiciously similar plot, and yet they were released only a year apart:

Jack Frost, released in 1997, is a gory comedy/slasher movie about a murderer who is splashed by chemicals and turns into a sentient snowman. He uses this new found power to escape from prison and go on a silly killing spree in a neighbouring town. In a complete 180: Jack Frost, released in 1998, is a heartwarming children’s drama/comedy movie starring Michael Keaton about a man who gets reincarnated as a snowman thanks to his son’s wish after a road accident.

Films that follow the same plot and title aren’t anything new, take Bad Lieutenant and Bad Lieutenant Port Of Call New Orleans for example, but the fact that these two films were released a year apart caused a lot of confusion. At the time, there were many stories of video rental shops that confused the two movies leading to many, many complaints.

Apparently, however, these films have absolutely nothing to do with each other production wise or anything else. Nobody who worked on the 1997 version was involved with the 1998 version, so for these two films to be released so close together with the same title and a similar plot was apparently pure coincidence.
