10 Must-See Godzilla Films

9. Godzilla Vs. Megalon (1973)

Every Godzilla fan knows that it doesn€™t get much lower than Godzilla vs. Megalon. Still remembered to this day as one of the cheapest and silliest entries of the series, this is a Godzilla film at its objectively worst; chock full of cheaply made suits, terrible actors, and stock footage from previous films. This begs the question: how can this be one of the best Godzilla films? Well, even at its lowest, a Godzilla film always has something to love, and Godzilla vs. Megalon is an amazing film precisely because of how stupidly fun it is. This is the best film a parent could use to introduce Godzilla to their kids. He is in full €œchildren€™s saviour€ mode here. While he may not be the living punishment of mankind he started out as, world-saving Godzilla is just as valid an interpretation as that. Much like Batman, without this goofier version of Godzilla, the character wouldn€™t be the pop-culture icon he is today. Godzilla vs. Megalon is also the origin of the now famous €œGodzilla dropkick." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94mg71wMZaI And that's just one amazing moment from a fight scene that takes up the last third of the movie, which is the main reason this film gets the props it deserves. All the monsters have personality, and the unadulterated goofiness is just so charming it warms the heart with joy. If you want to see Godzilla at his absolute goofiest, then Godzilla vs. Megalon is basically the perfect film. It's ridiculously entertaining and represents an important, if understandably detested, era of Godzilla's history.
