If there's one thing you can always rely on at the Sundance Film Festival it's the arrival of a movie which takes everyone by surprise with its style and inventiveness. Last year that treasure came in the form of Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter, directed by David Zellner and starring Rinko Kikuchi. Loosely based on a true story, Kumiko follows the titular Japanese woman who watches the Coen brothers' Fargo and, mistaking it for a documentary, sets off to the American midwest in search of the treasure buried in the movie. In the year since its premiere at Sundance Kimiko has received one rave review after another, with a current aggregate on Rotten Tomatoes of 95%. Widely described as an eccentric and offbeat odyssey, Kimiko, The Treasure Hunter could be one of the year's very best independent movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8htA6LR6u-Y Which February movies are you looking forward to?
