10 Must-Watch Fantasy Movies For People Who Don't Like Fantasy

9. The Lobster

The Lobster is a film that immediately asks for the open-mindedness of its audience;

The concept of a society where if a person is not in a relationship and married by the age of forty-five, they will turn into an animal. It's a rich premise that immediately reeks of sci-fi absurdity, and maybe even a pinch of old-fashioned Disney fairy tales. If you're not a fan of fantasy films this premise alone could roll a few eyes, but perhaps the film could tempt you with some incredible performances?

Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Reilly (amongst others) bring so much bleak charm to the film, viewers will slowly start to forget about the animal-morphing aspects, and instead find the appeal lies in the characters on screen. Particularly Farrell, who once again proves he is not an action star, but a man built for surreal and comedic performances.

The film is an outstanding counterbalance to the pressures of dating, conforming and insisting on finding a "mate" for life. While the surreal aspects of the film are logged as dystopian science-fiction, the comedic but also dark whimsy to The Lobster makes it a film no movie watcher of any preference should look away from.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
