10 Near-Classic Movies Ruined By Terrible Endings

7. Stephen King's IT

As far as Stephen King cinematic adaptations go, the TV-film IT might not be as recognised as the likes of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, but for most if its runtime, it is brilliantly effective in conveying the creepiest aspects of the source material, namely thanks to Tim Curry's terrifying performance as a scary-ass clown called Pennywise. After over two hours spent watching Pennywise murder both adults and children, we're left wondering how the gang is ever going to be able to take the monster down...that is until Attack of the Crappy Effects combines with a truly shocking narrative left-turn. In his natural state, it turns out, Pennywise is in fact a gigantic spider, a ludicrous reveal that completely drains the suspense and horror of the previous two hours. The result is campy by nature of the sub-par effects, which also naturally don't benefit from the horrifying charisma vented previously by Curry. This is a mostly-great film that whimpers to a halt.
