1922 follows Wilf, played by Thomas Jane as he confesses to a crime committed back in (you guessed it), 1922. It comes from twisted and disturbing mind of Stephen King, with the story based on his novella, also titled 1922. He murders his wife to help his son, and from then on Wilf is plagued by misfortune, a rotting hand and a horde of rats. Sounds like a family friendly movie. It's not a typical 'jump-a-minute' horror that seems to plague cinemas itself at the moment, but a character piece that looks at what happens to a person once a moral line is crossed.

Sure, 1922 is not like another popular recent King adaptation; IT (in which Bill SkarsgÄrd terrified audiences as Pennywise the Dancing Clown), but it's scary in its own nuanced ways. Brian Tellerico of the Roger Egbert site thought that the film "dragged". Respectfully, we disagree. The fear and guilt that evidently eats up Wilf throughout the film alongside his son's descent into a crime spree kept us entertained and invested.

It's strange for a horror film like this to take time developing its characters and ensuring that they have a definitive arc. We're not saying it's perfect, and it does have some problems with pacing, but Thomas Jane's haunting performance makes 1922 worth your time.
