Who doesn't love a good time loop thriller? Edge of Tomorrow managed it masterfully on the big screen, and ARQ does it just as well on the small screen. It follows Renton, played by Robbie Amell, who creates a Perpetual Motion Machine that causes a time loop. Unfortunately for Renton, it does this when he and his girlfriend are the victims of a home invasion. And each time Renton is killed, he wakes up back in bed right before the intruders break in.

ARQ crafts an intriguing human tale without needing bombastic special effects to separate the scenes. It solely relies on the twists and turns of the plot rather than the visuals. Yes, this can be put down to a smaller budget, but what it manages to do is impressive. Which is why it should be able to stand on its own two feet and without comparison to other time loop films like Primer and Edge of Tomorrow.

It's currently rated Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, but it honestly isn't that bad. If you don't go in expecting a five-star thriller and are looking for an 88-minute sci-fi thriller, give ARQ another try - the performances aren't Oscar-worthy, but it's still a cool idea.
