10 Netflix Original Sci-Fi Movies You Need To See

1. Cargo

IO Last On Earth
Netflix

If there is a Netflix film that has been criminally hidden away, then it is Cargo. The 2017 dystopian follows a man fighting for survival in the Australian wilderness during a zombie apocalypse. But when he gets bitten, its a race against time as he struggles to find someone to care for his infant daughter before he inevitably turns.

Cargo may lack the typical cliches that make zombie movies so popular but its subversion is what makes it truly special. The threat and anxiety can be felt through the entire runtime and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is both heart warming and heart breaking and is one of the best and most unique zombie movies of the 21st century.

Martin Freeman shines in the lead role despite it being wholly different from his most popular roles. The zombies are not the main act and audiences are left with Martin Freeman for majority of the runtime, delivering a story of loneliness that is one of Netflix's most underrated sci-fi originals.

If you have clicked on here, get ready to be bored. I'm just a 20 year old white male who has a (probably) unhealthy obsession with pop culture Film and TV. Handy in a trivia game but not much else. My parents were never murdered, I'm not avenging my dead wife. Just plain, old sat at a computer with a head full of knowledge I mostly don't use I was born and raised in the Black Country near Birmingham, England however am now living in Manchester, England after I moved here two years ago. I currently attend the University of Salford, studying Broadcast Journalism. That's it really. Told you there was nothing special. If you're really that desperate for something to do, follow me on socials. Yes, I do like that ego boost.
