10 New DC Extended Universe Characters To Look Out For In 2017

1. Steppenwolf

JK Simmons Gordon
Warner Bros/DC

Who's Playing Him? Ciaran Hinds.

Who's Ciaran Hinds? Hinds has been acting in film, on stage, and on TV steadily since the 1970s, but in recent years he's turned up in a handful of popular projects, voicing the Troll King in Disney's Frozen, appearing as Aberforth Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, and starring as Mance Rayder on HBO's Game of Thrones.

What's He Appearing In? Justice League.

Why You Should Be Excited: Now, technically, the villainous Steppenwolf was introduced this year, but the fact that it was in a deleted scene cut from Batman v Superman means that his actual introduction to the world at large - instead of just diehard fans taking the cut scene as canon - is still ahead of us, and he and his army of Parademons will be coming up against the Justice League full force. As the concept of Mother Boxes was briefly teased in Batman v Superman, they'll likely play a role in his grand scheme, but perhaps the most exciting thing about Steppenwolf's appearance is that it will undoubtedly pave the way for a cinematic version of an even bigger bad that DC fans have been waiting to see: Darkseid.
