10 New DC Extended Universe Characters To Look Out For In 2017
Wonder Woman and Justice League are coming. Get ready.
2016 saw Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad introducing a host of new characters to the DC Extended Universe, from heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and their future fellow members of the Justice League to villains and anti-heroes like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, and Deadshot. It was a big year for the franchise on that front, but with 2017 set to illuminate Wonder Woman's history in her own adventure before bringing together numerous characters for the first Justice League film, fans have yet another round of introductions to start getting ready for.
Between the two films, a number of new faces - from love interests and sidekicks to noble heroes and dangerous villains - will be playing a part in expanding the world of the DCEU even further, with a handful only making minor appearances ahead of major roles in later films. In many cases, we know which actors are playing which parts, but in others, we're left only with rumors and speculation surrounding things like the identity of Danny Huston's mysterious role in Wonder Woman or whether or not a Green Lantern will turn up in Justice League.
Putting aside those characters whose identities we can only guess at so far, let's instead look ahead at 10 characters who have been confirmed to be taking part in next year's pair of DCEU films, running down who's bringing them to life, where you can expect to see them, and why you should be excited they're on the way...
10. Etta Candy
Who's Playing Her? Lucy Davis.
Who's Lucy Davis? Davis has been busy for over two decades now, having appeared on shows such as Maron, Ugly Betty, and Californication, but you'll probably recognize her from both her role as Dianne in Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead and as Dawn on BBC's The Office.
What's She Appearing In? Wonder Woman.
Why You Should Be Excited: Introduced all the way back in 1942, the character of Etta Candy is one that's been a staple of Wonder Woman lore ever since, frequently serving as Diana's best friend, confidant, and sidekick. Consistently upbeat and optimistic, the character's presence in the film will likely serve as a counterpoint to the harsh realities - both on the battlefield and off - inherent in its World War I setting, and Davis' own proven comedic sensibilities will undoubtedly give the film a lot of levity and heart that could turn the character into a scene-stealer.
