10 New MCU Characters We Can't Wait To See In 2023
2. Adam Warlock
Originally, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would've concluded with The Sovereign's living weapon, Adam Warlock, allying with our titular heroes to defeat Ego the Living Planet. But when director, James Gunn, became concerned the film had too many characters, he decided to save Warlock for the follow-up.
As frustrating as it's been to wait another six freaking years to see Warlock in live-action, it was the right decision. Because Will Poulter's character is so iconic, it would've been a bad move to cram the golden gladiator into GOTG. Vol. 2's already overstuffed third act.
Also, it's fitting he would debut alongside The High Evolutionary, since he's the one who gave Warlock his name. (Originally, he was just called "Him". Very catchy.)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may serve as the end for several Guardians, but rest assured, this is only the beginning for Warlock. Considering the grandiose warrior has played a role in nearly every cosmic event storyline, lead his own team, wielded the Infinity Stones, turned into an intergalactic supervillain, and became Thanos' BFF, Adam Warlock is sure to have a long and prosperous future in many Marvel projects to come.
