10 New Movies Bound To Become Classics

9. His House

Palm Springs
Netflix

The fact that His House is the debut of director Remi Weekes is simply astounding; it's such a twisting, genre-bending odyssey that it feels like the work of a filmmaker with decades of experience.

The tale of two Sudanese refugees (Wunmi Mosaku and Sope Dirisu) who cross the English Channel in hopes for a better life, the drama is at first a frank assessment of life as a refugee forced to turn their back on their own culture whilst battling the prejudice around them, but soon becomes a haunted house horror with twists to spare.

Genuinely terrifying as a straight-up horror movie, His House does an impressive thing by refusing to lose sight of its core message or themes of freedom and identity. It makes for gripping viewing, and though it's tough to stomach, its subject matter makes it a vital viewing experience we'll be talking about for years.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
