10 New Movies Bound To Become Classics

8. Pig

Palm Springs
Neon

In Pig, a lonely truffle hunter played by Nicolas Cage sets out on a mission to save his most prized pig. Whilst this sounds like a typically off-the-wall Cage vehicle, Pig is instantly surprising. Instead of being violent, over-the-top or even embarrassing, it's actually one of the most moving and compassionate movies of 2021.

Turning in his best performance since his '95 Oscar win, Cage is harrowingly raw and open as a man willing to do anything to hold onto meaning in his life. The film is melancholy and slow, but its quiet meditations on loss make it utterly captivating.

The kind of film that ends up affecting you more than expected, Pig is gorgeously filmed, frequently surprising, and ends with a gut-punch that's hard to shake. For its all-time great Cage performance alone, it's sure to enter a special place in cinema lore, and will only grow in popularity with the Oscars just around the corner.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
