10 New Movies Bound To Become Classics
3. Que Vadis, Aida?
A Bosnian War film set during the devastating 1995 Srebrenica Massacre, Quo Vadis, Aida? follows a translator (Jasna Đuričić) as she desperately tries to protect her family whilst working alongside the Serbian forces in the midst of a violent national tragedy.
Unflinching in its portrayal of the massacre, the drama uses one woman's horrific journey to take a deep look into the casualties and unrelenting human toll of war. It may not be easy viewing - great war dramas never are - but it's such an effective historical document and profound piece of moviemaking it's impossible to ignore.
Moving with the pace of a thriller and pulling no punches about the complexities of what happened at Srebrenica, Quo Vadis, Aida? is brutal and eye-opening, but also hopeful and empowering, and should be discussed and revisited for years to come.
