10 Nicolas Cage Films That Know Exactly What They Are

7. Knowing

No, Knowing is not in reference to Cage's meta knowledge of his film presence, but rather a young girl's prediction of an extinction level event in the near future that our one and only Cage must prepare for. Finding a document that lists upcoming disasters by date, coordinates, and number of people killed in a time capsule, Cage hunts down the relatives of the girl that wrote the page, teaming up with Rose Byrne to save their families and hopefully, the world.

Knowing is the action film that doesn't conform to any normal explosive standards. Instead, it ramps things up to 11 and says "Hey, f*ck it, why not?" to almost anything thrown on the table, including planes dropping out the sky, subway train collisions, and even a nice appearance from aliens to round things off neatly.

It's one of those movies that simply wouldn't exist in the same capacity without Nicolas Cage championing it - as no one else could quite pull off the extraordinary sequences of events with such committed vigour. By having Cage as the hero of the movie, all plot holes, the random nature of the plot, and any exaggerated reactions are all perfectly forgivable. He's just the gift that keeps on giving in all aspects of the movie world.
