Remade, none the less, with campy Cage himself in the starring role - and it's everything we ever needed in a tragic little bundle of bee-torture and bear costumes. You can't say he ever does things by half.
Apparently, Cage actually wanted to let everyone know what he wanted to do to this masterful piece of cinema by dressing in a stiff cop suit sporting a handlebar moustache, because at least then we would know what we're getting in for from the outset. No such facial hair was achieved or allowed however, and instead, Cage's slow descent into the outright bizarre was unexpec- that's a lie. We all knew what was going to happen. Just not quite to this extent.
The 2006 remake of The Wicker Man is where Cage claims to understand the joke, and be entirely in on it, grasping the internet's obsession with his particular style of over-acting and involvement in increasingly strange projects. The film is clearing representing 'absurdist humour', according to the star, but that's easy enough to say in the wake of the film's reception, and many, many terrible montages of particularly out-there scenes. Just own it man.
