7. Will A Totally Original Story Work? - Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
Films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe rarely stick to the comics exactly, but Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is set to become the first movie in the franchise that will feature a completely original story. That's to say, writer/director James Gunn has come up with his own story, complete with new characters and story beats that were never featured in the comics. In his own words, the director said:
"Its not really based on anything. The story for Guardians 2 is an original story that I came up with that I started working on actually while I was shooting Guardians 1, and itll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quills father and who he is."
Marvel themselves have called the move "risky," but ultimately they decided to let their director do what he wanted, apparently. Besides, an exploration (or character study) of Peter Quill seems like an inherently smart move. A sequel that dares to be a bit different? Sure.
