7. Mike Peterson (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D)
Mike Peterson was the first superhuman subject to be the focus of an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D episode (the first one, simply called "Pilot"). Mike was a factory worker who, due to an injury, lost his job. His wife subsequently left him and he was left to bring up his son alone without a steady income. He was approached by a doctor (known only as Debbie), who offered him a treatment that could restore his health and put him back to work. Desperate to work again, Mike accepted the offer and was fitted with a device called the Centipede. The Centipede utilised unstable Extremis technology, Chitauri technology, the injection methods of the Super Soldier Serum and gamma radiation (essentially most of the methods of getting superpowers in the MCU mixed in to an unstable concoction). A number of side-effects occurred as a result of the treatment, including Peterson's development of super-powers (super-strength and durability), a slow descent in to insanity and bouts of uncontrollable anger. Peterson returned to his former workplace, hoping regain his old position. After being rebuffed, he attacked his old manager thanks to the Centipede-induced rage, putting him in the hospital. He then took S.H.I.E.L.D agent Skye hostage, ordering her to give him a clean slate. S.H.I.E.L.D tracked him down and, thanks to the calm talking of Phil Coulson (and a tranquilising curative agent), he was subdued and taken in to S.H.I.E.L.D custody for rehabilitation. It would be great to see him come out of rehabilitation and either get a job and live happily with his kid (since he was a really nice guy prior to the treatment) or see him empowered and working for S.H.I.E.L.D.
