10 Non-Horror Movies That Are HORRIFYING

Here's one just about nobody saw coming - Pablo Larraín's Spencer is far from the lavish Princess Diana biopic many were led to expect, but basically a secret horror movie.

The drama, which focuses on Diana's (Kristen Stewart) existential crisis during Christmas 1991, confesses the suffocating horrors of being a public figure under intense scrutiny, Larraín directing the film as though Diana is being literally haunted by the Royal Family itself.

Sandringham Estate feels like a classic setting for a spooky ghost story, while the increasing surreal imagery - including a nightmarish sequence involving pearls - and Jonny Greenwood's deeply unnerving score add up to a film that couldn't feel much further from a conventionally awards-baiting prestige biopic.

And let's not forget Stewart, who was rightly Oscar-nominated for her glorious portrayal of a woman racked by anxiety at one of the most pivotal periods of her life. Her facial expressions and overall physicality here would feel perfectly at home in a more conventional horror movie.
