10 Not-So-Traditional Christmas Flicks

9. Batman Returns (1992)

Often being forced to hide in the shadow of its predecessor, Batman Returns is actually an even darker and more twisted vision of the Caped Crusader from the demented mind of Tim Burton (an obvious fan of Christmas. Just check out his filmography), and it happens to take place during the most mirthful of seasons! The holiday backdrop and the German expressionistic art direction clash to create a visual interpretation that, in my opinion, outshines the original 1989 film's imagery by far. The movie is also anchored by two delightfully decadent performances by Danny DeVito as the monstrous Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as the sadistically seductive Catwoman. You throw in Christopher Walken and a plot to drown all of Gotham's firstborn children and you have a Batman motion picture that could very well be classified as a horror film. But, I guess having penguins firing missiles off of their backs helps to alleviate some of the grimness.
