Granted, if you've ever stepped out into the street and almost been hit by an oncoming vehicle, you've said (or at least thought about saying), "I'm walkin' here!" And that's regardless of whether or not you've ever seen Midnight Cowboy or not, which is the picture where the infamous quote comes from. And in the confines of that cinematic classic, those words are uttered by Dustin Hoffman. They also weren't in the script. Yup: after trying to nab a shot of Hoffman and Jon Voight (his co-star in the movie) walking through the streets of New York without a permit to film, a car came hurtling out of nowhere and bumped against Hoffman. Instinctively the actor reacted, and yelled, "I'm walkin' here!" and bashed his fists on the bonnet of the oncoming vehicle. Likely, at the time, the line meant nothing and the actor was clearly just aggravated that he'd almost be squashed, but somebody - and we presume it was the director of
