6. The Noah (1975)
This little-seen post-apocalyptic movie has fallen into relative obscurity, to the point at which mere mention of its title will likely bring blank stares and bible references. But
The Noah, which features Robert Strauss in his final ever performance, is one of cinema's most notable instances of a "one-man show movie." Strauss plays Noah, Earth's sole survivor after a devastating nuclear holocaust has wiped out the rest of civilisation. Most of the movie consists of Strauss conjuring up "companions" to keep him busy, with other actors voicing them off-screen (though they never appear). It's a weird concept, all right, but the movie is nicely shot and is crammed with some interesting religious notions. Strauss' performances is also one of his best. Bizarrely,
The Noah wasn't seen again until 1997, despite being shot in 1968 and released in 1975. A lost gem in every sense.
