5. The Man Who Sleeps (1974)

This critically-acclaimed French movie directed by Bernard Queysanne clings to its premise as a "movie with just one actor in it" and takes it one step further: that one actor, Jacques Spiesser, also happens to be a
silent protagonist, so you're not getting any dialogue here, Mister. Sound like something you're interested in? Welcome to France, where they actually make movies like this for, like, artistic reasons (or something). Yes,
The Man Who Sleeps consists of Spiesser, playing a student who decides to abandon the world he has come to know, wandering the streets of Paris, whilst a random woman narrates words over the top of him. Yes, it sounds like a
parody of a French movie, but this is a legitimate picture, I can assure you. The words we're hearing via this woman are, of course, the inner thoughts of our protagonist. Also, he smokes (French).
