10 Most Notoriously Nightmarish Film Shoots

1. The Crow

Dimension FilmsDimension FilmsSo pretty much, The Crow represents the absolute worst thing that can happen on a film set. Ever. The film was meant to really launch the career of Brandon Lee (son of the acclaimed kung-fu star Bruce Lee), in which he starred as an undead rock star brought back to life to avenge both his death and that of his fiancee. They were set to film a scene where Lee's character comes home to find his fiancee raped, and is then shot by the thugs who broke into his house. The scene required Lee to be shot from a distance of about twelve feet with blanks, which contain a live powder charge and primer but no bullet. The film's firearms specialist had already left for the day, leaving a props assistant in charge who was likely unaware of the protocol of checking every firearm between scenes for obstructions. As it was, a dummy cartridge had been left in the gun from a previous scene, and when the actor Michael Massee fired the gun, Brandon Lee was shot in the abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital, but died after six hours of surgery. His tragically premature death came on the heels of what many consider to be an iconic performance, and The Crow went on to be a beloved cult classic.
