10 Most Notoriously Nightmarish Film Shoots

2. Waterworld

UniversalUniversalIf you look carefully, you can actually see the exact moment in Waterworld where we all started to collectively realize that maybe we should stop letting Kevin Costner be in charge of things. The biggest production tangle on the set of Waterworld was the simple fact that they chose to film on an atoll built off the coast of Hawaii which, as it turns out, is monumentally stupid. Not only was it outrageously expensive to transport cast and crew to the atoll every day, it was time-consuming and occasionally dangerous (one day, Kevin Costner's stunt double was riding his jet ski to work when he ran out of fuel and drifted for hours until he was finally rescued by the Coast Guard). They also fought with nature throughout the entire production, with sets destroyed by hurricanes, consistently high winds ruining shots, and child actress Tina Majorino getting stung by jellyfish on three separate occasions. And at the end of the day, what did they have to show for it? A mediocre film that most people consider to be one of the biggest bombs of all time.
