10 Obscure Actors Who Deserve More Respect

2. Tunde Adebimpe

Tunde AdebimpeYou've Seen Him In: Rachel Getting Married (2008) If you've heard of Tunde Adebimpe, it's almost certainly as the frontman of indie rock band TV on the Radio, and not as a highly regarded actor in low budget pictures; the latter is absolutely the case, though. First coming to attention as an actor in 2001 in the no-budget indie Jump Tomorrow, Adebimpe's biggest role, by far, has been as the beleaguered groom in Jonathan Demme's Rachel Getting Married. He's a very subtle actor, a quiet, powerful, and humble presence on screen, the kind of shy intellectual that maybe isn't so interesting at first, but after a while, becomes really impressive. The Role He Needs: He's a musician; use that. Make a 21st century version of Robert Altman's Nashville, set in Brooklyn instead of Nashville, with indie rock bands instead of country acts. Let Adebimpe be one of the central characters, and explore the machinations of hipster art and music culture.
