6. Perdita Durango (1997) 
Alex de la Iglesia always enjoys pushing buttons with his films but with Perdita Durango, its clear hes having the most fun doing it. Is it a horror film? Is it a heist film? Is it a comedy? All of the above. Rosie Perez plays Perdita Durango, a character from the novels of Barry Gifford and previously played by Isabella Rosselini in David Lynchs Wild at Heart. Whereas Rosselini played Perdita as mysterious and aloof, Perez drops all of that and makes Perdita an angry force to be reckoned with. A lady that doesnt just deliver lines, she spits them out with venom regardless the context. This is why it makes sense that she teams up with Javier Bardems Romeo Dolorosa, a charismatic yet psychotic criminal who dabbles in a little witchcraft on the side. This is the one guy who can even remotely match her in craziness. They travel from Mexico to the states in order to deliver a truckload of special cargo, and decide to kidnap two teenage kids with plans to sacrifice them later in an all-hell-breaks-loose ceremony. All this goes down in the first thirty minutes and theres a lot more mayhem, sex, and Herb Alpert to come before the credits roll. Aside from Rosie Perez and future Academy Award winner Bardem, this film boasts an excellent supporting role from cult bluesman Screamin Jay Hawkins. This was the guy who wrote I Put A Spell On You. And lets not forget James Gandolfini who, two years before becoming Tony Soprano, plays a DEA Agent with the unfortunate talent of attracting oncoming traffic, several times. This is the type of movie Perdita Durango is. Its destined to be one of your favorite movies.
