There seems to be an adage in the film industry that you must have a large budget to create a visually striking movie. However, sometimes a flick like this comes along to prove you don't need all the money in the world to make something that viewers can't take their eyes off.

Ink is a twisted tale of dreams, nightmares and fantasy. It follows the titular character's attempts to sell off a child to a group of dangerous creatures called the Incubi, who create nightmares. Alongside this, a group of storytellers (who create positive dreams) race to save her, and her father exists in the real world, pondering his life and coming to terms with his role of fatherhood.

It's a perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy, as the dreamscape concepts feel far removed from the science fiction genre but are kept close at hand thanks to the technological influences of the dream world. The fact that this film looks as stunning as it does, considering it's a low-budget indie title, is profound, and it's worth watching if only for the visuals.

However, the story itself also deserves credit, as the complicated world of Ink could have been tough to follow, but it eases you in perfectly and delivers on an emotional story about responsibility, grief and redemption.
