10 Most Obvious Oscar-Bait Movies Coming In 2014

Though the Academy Awards are not scheduled to take place until March, awards season has well and truly begun winding down, with most of the notable precursors (except the DGA Awards) having had their say, leaving it up to March 2nd for the season to officially come to a close. However, for everyone else, the hunt is already on to find the big-hitters of 2014, and looking ahead at what's to come in terms of awards prospects, there's already plenty of so-called "Oscar bait" earmarked for us to sift through. The term is typically a derogatory one used to indicate a film that's clamouring too desperately for the attention of Oscar voters by being overly earnest, overacted, or depicting the Holocaust with a string quartet score. Though many of these films may transcend that label and go onto greatness, most will no doubt fall by their own opulent hand and end up being bunk buddies with films like last year's The Great Gatsby. And of course, this list does not include films that I have genuine faith in being both excellent films and Oscar nominees to that end, such as David Fincher's Gone Girl, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice. As usual, feel free to add your own or argue with me in the comments!
