10 Off The Wall Movie Casting Choices That Were Somehow Awesome

9. Jim Carrey Seamlessly Blending Drama & Comedy In The Truman Show

the TRuman Show When Jim Carrey signed on to star in Peter Weir's brilliant and iconic reality TV meditation The Truman Show, he was mostly renowned for mugging at the camera, "being zany" (never really a good thing), making fart jokes and being incredibly over the top in pretty much everything he did. So when the world glimpsed this very non-serious actor suddenly striking a mesmerising balance between comedy and drama, they took note. In fact, Jim Carrey was so good in The Truman Show, that he picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actor in 1998. Though in the wake of that movie Carrey has assumed perhaps an equal number of comedy and drama roles, back in the late '90s there was no real way of knowing that this hyperactive joker was capable of more than just crazy faces until he showed a serious side in The Truman Show. Since then, Carrey has proven himself as an actor of incredible dramatic force, as witnessed in what is arguably his best ever performance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. But it all started right here, with Carrey channeling a certain Tom Hanks-ness.
