10 Once Great Directors Who Suddenly Missed The Mark

4. Steven Spielberg - Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Ss With a career as varied as Steven Spielberg (could anyone else have made a wide eyed dinosaur blockbuster and a sombre Holocaust movie in the same year) there€™s bound to be a couple of moments where he slipped up, but the likes of Hook and War Of The Worlds pale in comparison to the fourth Indiana Jones. What more can be said about Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull that hasn't already been torn to shreds? What I will say is that I personally don€™t think the fridge is as heinous as its reputation suggests (isn't the rubber dinghy rapids in Temple Of Doom just as farfetched). It's the CGI overload and unimaginative plot are the real front and centre issues here. Say all you want about Lucas being the root of the problem, ol€™ Steven still directed the thing. Things like the gophers and quicksand scene are the sort of thing that scream Spielberg and thus he regrettably pays for it on this list (and across the internet). Did he pull it back? And then some. Lincoln was a knockout success that was unfairly ignored at (most of) the Oscars while TinTin€™s carefree adventure atoned for Crystal Skull€™s crimes against action cinema.
