10 One Man Army Movies Not To Be Slept On
6. The Night Comes For Us
When you think of Indonesian martial arts movies, your first thought will undoubtedly be Gareth Evans’ The Raid or its sequel, but don’t let this fine example of the genre from 2018 pass you by.
Directed by Timo Tjahjanto - who actually worked with Evans on a segment from the film V/H/S 2 - The Night Comes for Us was originally a graphic novel before getting the big screen treatment. Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim (also from The Raid) star in this tale of a former Triad member (Taslim) tasked with rescuing a young girl from the clutches of his old employers.
The film is a masterpiece of highly choreographed, bloody violence, as Taslim’s character takes no prisoners when it comes to keeping his charge safe. The sequences are beautifully directed too, prompting comic book legend Rob Liefeld to call for Tjahjanto to direct the next Deadpool movie.
Though definitely too gory for some, The Night Comes for Us is a fantastic choice for anyone who prefers the more extreme end of action cinema.
