10 One-Off Slasher Horror Movie Villains Who Must Return

One of the most impressive auteur jobs in recent memory, Alice Lowe wrote, directed, and starred in this film about a woman convinced that her unborn child is conveying murderous instincts. As if that wasn’t enough, she did so while heavily pregnant, stopping only to give birth, with her actual child then playing her character’s child in the film.

Lowe stars as Ruth, a mother-to-be whose husband dies in unfortunate circumstances during a climbing trip. She’s at a loose end - until she begins to hear her daughter delivering vengeful advice from within the womb.

It’s a comedy first and foremost, but like similar British horror-comedies before it, by no means does Prevenge skimp on the scary stuff. Lowe is clearly a slasher aficionado, and has Ruth go about her business in a particularly visceral fashion.

We’ve seen some pretty youthful killers in horror movie history, but this one takes the cake. There’s a ready made childhood trauma backstory right there.
