10 One-Off Slasher Horror Movie Villains Who Must Return
5. Horny The Clown - Drive-Thru
The horror movie clown is one of the most well worn genre tropes there is, so kudos should go first of all to Drive-Thru for finding an original angle on the idea. As the title suggests, Drive-Thru starts off in a fast food restaurant, where the establishment’s mascot, Horny, insults the customers.
Next thing you know, Horny takes it further by massacring some diners in horrible fashion. Drive-Thru gets great mileage out of the possible tools of murder found in the average takeaway joint, with heads shoved into deep fat fryers and exploded in microwaves.
The backstory given to Horny is a little slapdash - it’s basically a cross between A Nightmare On Elm Street and It - but the stylishness on show in this movie sets it apart from its straight-to-video contemporaries of the era. It’s also notable for casting Leighton Meester, just about to blow up on the back of Gossip Girl, in the lead.
But it’s Horny who the movie throws its hopes behind, even making a grab for a potential sequel in the end. As a clown and a fast food mascot, he’s the ultimate horror underdog.
