10 Opening Horror Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut

8. The Ritual - Child's Play

Don Mancini's original script for Child's Play spent a good while toying (pun intended) with the audience as to whether its central killer was actually murderous doll Chucky (Brad Dourif) or his young owner, Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent).

But this provocative element was massively sanitised in the final film, enough that the opening sequence straight-up shows serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Dourif) performing the voodoo ritual which transfers his soul into one of the Good Guy dolls moments before his human form dies.

Even though Andy is suspected of being behind the mounting pile of bodies in the film's first half, we as the audience know this isn't the case because of that opening sequence.

But if the ritual scene was cut, the first half of the movie is more intriguingly ambiguous until we see Chucky come to life and attack Andy's mother Karen (Catherine Hicks).

It's never fun having to watch characters figure out something that we've known for ages, and there's no reason at all that the ritual scene couldn't have been moved to later in the film as a flashback instead.
