10 Opening Movie Scenes Which Immediately Stunned Audiences

7. Mad Max: Fury Road - Max Is Captured

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is a film which rarely takes its foot off the gas pedal and audiences were almost instantly propelled into the chaos of this post-apocalyptic world without warning.

Within minutes, our dust and sand covered hero Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) has his car (and life) swiftly flipped upside down and is dragged away by the War Boys. But, this is merely the beginning of his eventful introduction.

Max is then shaved and tattooed, yet he manages to wriggle free just as he's about to be branded with a scorching hot iron. A merry fast-paced chase then ensues as Max manages to out manoeuvre the pale white army trying to use him as a 'blood bag' and escape Immortan Joe's citadel.

Only, he doesn't.

Instead of defying the odds and finding the right door which will lead him to safety, Max is forced to desperately launch himself towards a nearby hook dangling high up over the ground. He's then snatched out of the air after swinging back towards his captors and the film is officially kickstarted with the leading man being hauled away by his enemies.

Smashing expectations before we'd even had a chance to figure out where we were, George Miller brilliantly set the tone here for the pulsating and often surprising experience which was about to unfold.
