10 Original Cuts Of Horror Movies We'll Sadly Never See

9. Amityville II: The Possession (Damiano Damiani's Original Cut)

The Amityville series is one of the genre's longest-running and most convoluted sagas to date with a whopping ten films under its belt - as well as a slew of low-budget imitators that leech off of its pedigree name.

It's certainly true that most of the sequels are pretty naff all things considered, but Amityville II: The Possession is perhaps the best of the bunch. It tells a very familiar story of a family who move into a haunted house in which all manner of spooky shenanigans and demonic possessions occur, which on the surface sounds par for the course.

However, director Damiano Damiani's original cut of the film was anything but conventional.

The version that was shown to test audiences was a much darker and more sinister beast than what eventually hit cinemas. It featured sub-plots that revolved around incest and harrowing sexual assault, which proved to be far too much for some.

Damiani himself stated that he wanted to upset the viewers as much as possible, and given the reaction that audiences had to his original cut, he succeeded. None of the original footage has ever surfaced and it's considered lost forever.

Although perhaps that's for the best...
