10 Original Movies To Keep On Your Radar For The Rest Of 2017

9. Ferdinand

Happy Death Day Baby Mask Killer
20th Century Fox

With Pixar's Coco not releasing until January 2018 for us U.K. viewers (which seems like a very weird choice, but that's a whole other discussion), Blue Sky's Ferdinand has the opportunity to be the defining animated movie of this Christmas period.

After all, the studio has accomplished that before. 2015's Peanuts movie was a marvellous effort, a feel-good holiday movie with a huge heart underneath and plenty of laughs on the surface.

And while Ferdinand won't be very Christmassy - it follows a pacifist Spanish fighting bull - the fact that the same team behind Peanuts is working on it does give reason to hope that it will be equally enjoyable and memorable.

John Cena provides the voice of said bull, Ferdinand, who, after being mistaken for a dangerous animal, is taken captive. The supporting cast - Kate McKinnon, David Tennant, Bobby Cannavale - is stellar, and with the trailer promising a lot of easily-enjoyable humour, Ferdinand could be the perfect movie for those cold, dark December nights.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
