10 Original Movies To Keep On Your Radar For The Rest Of 2017

8. The Shape Of Water

Guillermo del Toro is one of the most fascinating creative voices in the movie industry, and his newest film, The Shape Of Water, looks to be as weird and wonderful as you'd expect.

The Shape Of Water follows Elisa (Sally Hawkins) a mute janitor who works in a mysterious government laboratory. Here, she discovers something that the laboratory has been working on - a strange amphibious creature, tucked away in a water tank. Elisa slowly begins to befriend this creature, and the two form a solid, if unorthodox, bond.

The Shape Of Water is the director's first film since 2015's Crimson Peak, and given the lukewarm reception the latter film received, it's hard to say how general audiences will react to his latest, given that the two movies share the same gothic feel.

However, early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, so hopefully the movie can find the success that its director deserves after a long, entertaining career.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
