10 Original Movies To Keep On Your Radar For The Rest Of 2017

7. Mother!

Happy Death Day Baby Mask Killer
Paramount

The last time Jennifer Lawrence appeared in a horror movie, we got House At The End Of The Street, and it was... ok. With Mother! she's once again back in spooky territory, but this time, the project shows a lot more promise.

Most of that promise is because of director Darren Aronofsky, who thrives in this kind of psychological, mind-bending territory - Black Swan is proof of that.

His latest follows Lawrence and Javier Bardem, a happy couple whose peaceful existence is disrupted by the arrival of strangers, but if the director's resume is anything to go by, the plot will not be as straightforward as that sounds.

Expect twists, turns, and scares; not of the 'sudden loud noise and quick movement' variety, but the type that builds slowly, suspensefully, before releasing like an arrow from a bow.

Mother! is out in theatres quite soon, so we don't have to wait long to see if the hype was warranted.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
