10 Original Movies To Keep On Your Radar For The Rest Of 2017

6. Happy Death Day

Happy Death Day
Universal Pictures

What would happen if Groundhog Day met a typical teen slasher?

That's the question Happy Death Day seeks to answer, and the mix of a creepy killer in a mask and a constantly repeating murder can hopefully inject some life into the worn-out 'dumb kids being murdered' sub-genre of horror movies.

Happy Death Day finds victim Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) constantly reliving the same day; the day on which she is killed by someone sporting a creepy, mostly-toothless baby-face mask.

One of the most exciting things about Happy Death Day is that it's produced by Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions, a company that many would regard as the best horror studio working today.

It's hard to argue with a hot streak that includes Get Out, Split, Ouija: Origin Of Evil, Hush, The Visit and The Gift, so if Blumhouse can bring the same magic they've brought to so many of their other movies, Happy Death Day is in very safe hands.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
