10 Original Movies To Keep On Your Radar For The Rest Of 2017

Duncan Jones' Mute, much like David Ayer's Bright, looks to be a return to familiar territory after directing a critically panned, largely generic blockbuster - in Jones' case, that was 2016's Warcraft.

Both men are back-pedaling and going to direct movies more closely aligned with the success they found with their earlier projects, which can only be good news.

For Jones, that's thoughtful sci-fi, which, like the effort that put him on the map - Moon - is exactly what Mute is.

The movie will follow a (surprise!) mute bartender as he searches for answers following his wife's death. It's set forty years in the future and carries a shiny, neon-tinged aesthetic that's not unlike Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.

Mute is the only film on this list without a firm release date, though Duncan Jones has stated that it will launch in 2017 (on Netflix). So keep your eyes peeled!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
