1. Best Stuntwork
As the most undeniably necessary of the all the entries on the list, it's something akin to an embarrassment that the Academy Award for Best Stuntwork is yet to exist in any way, shape, or form. So despite the fact that tens of thousands of movie-goers have yearned for such a category to have been implemented into the ceremony for a number of decades, Best Stuntwork still fails to make the cut; do we really need arbitrary cuts like "Best Original Song," year after year, when there's still no Oscar for Best Stuntwork? Absolutely not. Movie stunts aren't something to be taken lightly; there is an artistry to their design, construction and execution - not to mention a clear and present danger. Stuntmen and stuntwoman often put their lives at risk in order to render some of cinema's most inherently thrilling and exciting scenes. Just look at some of the extensive action sequences in the recent Furious 7 and it's easy to see that stunts aren't to be seen as low brow or brainless. More than ever, the Academy needs to understand that stuntwork makes up a large part of modern cinematic conventions - or risk facing increased scrutiny at their perceived snobbery.
