10 Oscar Film Categories That Should Totally Exist
7. Best Motion Capture Performance
Otherwise known as "The Andy Serkis Award." In this day and age, motion capture is a huge and essential part of the movie industry. The use of this amazing technology in modern pictures is only increasing, which means that the Oscars need to adapt to the changes in the cinematic medium in order to stay relevant. Not only that, but motion capture performances are never going to find themselves nominated in either the Best Actor or Best Actress categories - even if they deserve to be. Which means that, as far as the Oscars are concerned, motion capture performances just don't get a look in. And with that there's a sense that the Academy don't realise or understand the skill involved with motion capture as an art. Motion capture isn't as easy as "wearing a spandex suit," after all - some of cinema's best and most brilliant characters have been rendered as a result of this careful process through genuine talent. So, c'mon - it's time to give Andy Serkis the opportunity to take home the Oscar that he totally deserves.
