10 Oscar Film Categories That Should Totally Exist
4. Best Acting Debut
Ever year, there tends to be an actor who appears out of nowhere and stuns the world with a truly amazing cinematic performance. These guys sometimes wind up nominated for Oscars in the Best Actor/Actress or Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories, but wouldn't it be good to have an award designed especially for a great acting debut? That goes double when you consider that a lot of these sorts of actors tend to disappear after they've made themselves known, unable to manoeuvre Hollywood or find fitting projects. A huge slice of recognition by way of a "Best Acting Debut" Oscar could not only spice things up from a ceremony perspective, but it could also go a long way in encouraging new talent - especially child actors. The only criteria, of course, would be that said nominee would have to be making their first ever appearance in a fully-fledged motion picture to qualify.
