10 Oscar Film Categories That Should Totally Exist

3. Best Motion Picture Trailer

Probably the least likely of all the Oscar suggestions to find itself included as an Academy Award category, but still... even as a hypothetical, wouldn't it be sort of cool if the Academy decided to give out an Oscar statuette for "Best Motion Picture Trailer"? After all, there are a lot of trailers, year after year, that qualify as works of undeniable art viewed separately from the movies that they're constructed out of - think of The Social Network, or Prometheus. In some cases, trailers are actually better than said final movies (definitely the case with the latter). Selling a movie, after all, is something of an art form in itself. And that is the purpose of the trailer: to find a way to convince people to part with their money and flock to the theatre in their masses. And there are different methods and approaches available to studios, editors and directors, depending on who's tasked with coming up with a trailer, in order to capture what a movie "is" in under two minutes.
