10 Oscar Winning Films That Are Actually Bad
1. Bohemian Rhapsody
Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the few films to be nominated
for Best Picture and win every award it was up for besides the big one. The
worst part? It deserved all four of its wins; Best Film Editing, Best Sound
Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and most deservedly Best Actor. Rami Malek’s
performance is a ’69 Corvette parked right in the middle of a junk yard. The
film’s 61% on Rotten
Tomatoes is the second lowest of any Best Picture nominee, only behind (in
front of?) Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close at 46%.
Queen is the greatest rock bands in history and for their story to be crumpled up into an inaccurately cheesy feel-good flick and sent out with a bow on it is damned infuriating. Director Bryan Singer (let’s not even get into it) made a fluff piece that followed every stereotype in the musical-biopic arsenal.
To add fuel to the more than rational fire, not only was the film a colossal mess, but fans ate it up like no one could have imagined; the movie made over $400 million globally and is already starting the trend of giving every musical legend their own film. The script was nonsense and the direction similarly so, often written like a hallmark film and having characters talk as no humans actually do. Never in the Oscars 91-year run has a Best Picture nominee been less deserving of the accolade.
